Selling Lesson Plans? Maybe

Just wondering if anyone else out their has heard of TeachersPayTeachers.com.  This is a website established by a 33-year old former teacher who was looking for a way to have educators earn an extra buck.  He set up a website where teachers can sell their original leson plans for whatever they chose.  The website is sort of like an e-bay for educators.  I first saw this article on CNN.com on June 28th and was not quite sure what i thought.  Is it to the point that we need to sell our work to another teacher?  I am sure that not every lesson plan on the site is an original idea.  Teachers are famous for pulling many different ideas and creating a lesson.  However with the arrival of the internet the market for potential buyers has exploded.  Instead of sharing with a potential colleague in the same district, educators can now reach peers across the world.  I like the idea of interaction and the exchange of ideas, but i dam still unsure about the selling of plans.  Any opinions?

From my own experience as a teacher, I can see that there are some who are so secretive of their activities, or plans that it is ridiculous. I have been blessed with a wonderful mentor who shared everything with me – even my cooperating teacher. But some teachers have a problem sharing plans or activities which took them a long time to create and devise. In a way it understandable when you have one teacher who does absolutely nothing and then comes along and wants all your plans or ideas. That would bother me too. But it also depends on the person. Unfortunately not every teacher acts professionally and is collegial to one another. You just have to know your peers.
Selling plans – who knows, maybe this is the future where the internet will take us. In the end it’s just another business transaction!

I have heard of this. I think it is a great idea in theory. What I don’t like about it is educators paying for lesson plans. I think that lesson plans should be shared freely, just like other information and ideas.

At my school we have a file share system that the entire school can get on. Their is everything from recipes to lesson plans on it. The site really comes in useful when looking for ideas.
